The Oldtimers welcome guest speaker Quinn Buckner

    Quinn Buckner is the long time analyst for the Pacers television games. In July 2004, Buckner was named Vice President of Communications for Pacers Sports & Entertainment. Buckner also leads the Pacers Youth Basketball program. Prior to joining the Pacers television staff, he was an analyst with the Cleveland Cavaliers, NBC’ NBA coverage and CBS’ March Madness college basketball coverage.  He was also an analyst for NBA games on ESPN Radio.

    Buckner played basketball at Thornridge High School in Dolton, Illinois,where he captained the Falcons and lost only one game while winning back-to-back state titles.  Buckner was also an excellent football player, making all-state in high school.  He is the only athlete ever named Chicago area Player of the Year for both football and basketball.  In 2006, Buckner was voted as one of the “100 Legends of the IHSA Boys Basketball Tournament”.

    An Indiana University graduate with a Business degree, Buckner won four Big Ten Basketball championships and was the Captain of the 1976 undefeated NCAA Championship team (the last college basketball team to go undefeated and win the national championship, and was voted the greatest team in the 75 years of the NCAA tournament).  Buckner was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the 7th pick of the 1976 NBA draft and was also selected by the Washington Redskins in the 1976 NFL draft.  He had a ten-year NBA career for three different teams (the Bucks, the Boston Celtics, and the Indiana Pacers) including 1983-84, when he was a member of Boston’s NBA Championship team.  Buckner is a former head coach of the Dallas Mavericks.

    Buckner was the Captain of the 1976 gold medal-winning U.S.  Olympic Basketball team competing in Montreal.  He is one of three people in the history of basketball to win a championship on every level, high school, college, Olympics and the NBA.  On November 19, 2015, Quinn was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in Kansas City, Missouri.

  Buckner is an avid golfer.  His community activities have included serving on the boards of various charities, including the Indiana University Board of Trustees, Indiana University Foundation, Center for Leadership Development, Pacers Foundation, Community Health Network Foundation, Indianapolis Children’s Choir Advisory Council, National Basketball Players Association, First Tee of Indianapolis, USA Basketball, Indiana Youth Institute, Special Olympics of Indiana, YMCA, Indianapolis Zoological Society, Big Ten Advisors Council, as well as being a member of Old National Bank Advisory Board.  Buckner is also a partner in Mack Financial, a Member Firm of M Financial Group, who is a leading financial services and distribution firm.  Mack Financial works with Corporations, Corporate Executives, and High Net Worth individuals providing individual life & disability insurance, retirement plans, wealth management, and executive benefits.  Buckner and his wife Rhonda have four children: Jason, Cory, Lauren and Alexsandra.
